Jakaranda tree
By Dorothy Cruz:
There are many Jacaranda trees in Southern California. When I lived in San Diego, I got a seed and planted it. That tree bloomed the first year, it was about 8 feet tall by then. In Whittier there is a street that's lined with these trees, and when the blossoms fall, the street is paved with purple. Just beautiful. It is a semi-tropical plant so you don't see them too much in the colder areas.
